Pretty enjoyable for the casuals. Also easy to 100%.. Games of the same kind (cheap SimCity clone with no complexity and just a few options) are written in Flash and found online in great numbers. This one is very irritating, because the authors consciously made it into a clickfest: if you have 10 or more houses, any given monent one of them breaks and needs a manual repair. It looks like a sophomore exercise in commercial game-writing, with the same irritating commercial stylistics as found in online games in air flights. The target audience is not causal gamers, but some rich guy who thinks this kind of drivel must be popular with gamers. Uniquely bad game, I am quite ashamed I have it in my library. Please don't buy it. Thanks.. I was looking for a town building game on a smaller, more basic scale to the likes of SimCity et al. Thats what this is - a small town building game with basic management principles and little micromanagement. Good for taking a break from large, high end games and returning to a simpler play style.Pros: - Small file size - Simple to get the hang of - Mildly entertaining, it reminds me of those countless city-building games you get on smartphones. - I like the objectives system for each area - CheapCons: - Does seem to hold your hand a bit, though i haven't done too much of the story yet (will update as necessary) - A little sparse. What content there is isn't lacking, but it feels like there could be much, much more.Opinion:Good for killing time, if time is thirty minutes to an hour. This may well be different for everyone else, but i can't see myself playing for much more than that in one sitting. Worth getting, but not worth paying much more than \u00a33.00 for (I purchased on sale for \u00a32.09)5\/10. TL;DR 5/10 Less pausing; more waiting; structure breaks seconds before end--losing Trophy--redo 15 minutes of work; Buy Megapolis insteadI finished a later version called Megapolis (6/10) with enjoyment. This first incarnation is an obvious mobile port that frustrates more than challenges. While sitting and waiting for the workers to finish a structure, I watched 5 other structures break down. The Inspectors License to protect breakdowns is $150K. I have never yet had the funds+time to afford yet & apply for 0 materials to every building. Plus, further improving a structure nullifies the inspection. Since spending on growth & repairing individual breakdown is so much more efficient, the inspection become 1 last tedious task which must be done only at the end to ensure a full victory (with questionable time length for up to 25 inspections.)Unfortunately, the sequel, Romopolis, in the series of 3, is even worse.. I highly enjoy this game. I always enjoyed sanbox city building type games.. Very basic City Builder game with objectives in Campaign mode. It's pretty fun in short one hour bursts. Would have been nice to have a much larger space to build my city in Sandbox mode though. A bit too limiting in that regard. It would be a great game for young children to play to introduce them to city building games. Once they master this game get them to try Sim City 2000 :). Maybe this game appeals to somebody but it certainly didn't do anything for me. Played more like a mobile game with the constant clicking. I couldn't really find any real gameplay, most of it was just clicking the same stuff over and over again. Gave it 30 minutes as i always do for these games and finished the first 5 missions in that time. Wasn't worth it. I wouldn't say it's not worth the 4 bucks but more like that it is not worth your time.. What is Townopolis?Townopolis is a casual sandbox\/scenario based neighborhood planning game. It follows the traditions of the sub-genre of casual games, adding nothing new but doing well what it does. Mostly. The sub-genre has you as planner on a map of a small neighborhood where you build houses, upgrade them, add features to them etc.The houses generate income which is used to generate more income by building more houses. All the while you have a small resource management aspect with one or few resources (in this case one, named "materials") and builders. Each level has a time limit in which a certain goal must be fulfilled, for example in the first non-tutorial scenario you have 10 minutes to build a supermarket and have 6,500 dollars income per month (in reality: every few seconds) and ten upgraded houses (as optional goal). So you need 12 workers, lots of material, a supermarket building blueprint\/license and you must make enough space for your building project. Things are made harder by the fact that there are two sawmills and some forests that can't be removed. The sawmills produce unhappiness to everyone living nearby, as does the supermarket. Houses grouped together are more happy because people like to live with other people. Which technically is true for not everyone, but in the game it is that way.Controls:The entire game is controlled with the mouse. The controls are explained ingame, but pretty much everything is done through a contextual menu on the main screen or the license\/blueprint menu where time is paused. Alternatively you have a visible pause button as well.Graphics:The graphics are isometric, so you see everything and can act quickly. The UI fits with the isometric theme, but at the beginning can be overwhelming. However, since things unlock one by one you can learn the buttons all without complications.Sound:The sound is standard. There is nothing special, it just is forgettable music that runs in the background which doesn't become annoying but will also not stick with you after exiting the game.Gameplay:The gameplay was described above in the sub-genre description. There are additionally some trophies to be earned that are also unlocking Steam Achievements. Apart from the usual ones that can just be grinded or naturally earned while playing, there is also one for completing the campaign and getting all gold stars (for par times). The campaign has 24 levels, which are enough for a few hours of gameplay. There is also a sandbox mode, which has an achievement to finish 12 missions or scenarios in it.Overall the game can be recommended for fans of the genre. The sale price of 1 Euro or your local equivalent is good enough to pick it up and have some fun. You just should expect a rather casual game, if you don't know the sub-genre already.Recommended: For genre fans
